It can be used alone or in combination with conventional medicines and therapies. For more information on acupuncture, click here.
What to expect?
Animals can benefit from acupuncture in many ways. A few of the most common uses in the veterinary field are to increase comfort, mobility and energy. Many conditions are long standing, such as arthritis. As it took many months/years to develop these conditions, acupuncture may take time to yield results. However, it is common to see dramatic improvement in your pet then the results level off. It is important to keep in mind that the goal is comfort level.
What kind of commitment is needed?
Initially, you can expect to have one treatment a week for at least 6-8 weeks. From there, frequency of treatment will depend on the response. Once there is a consistent response, you are scheduled once every two weeks, etc... The goal is to continue to increase the time interval between treatments. The first appointment will last 45 to 60 minutes. A full conventional exam and traditional chinese medicine exam will be performed. Each follow-up appointment will last roughly 15-20 minutes.
